Sierra Leone - Wetlands Conservation Project The objective of MAFFS/World Bank Wetlands Conservation Project is to improve sustainable management of priority wetland ecosystems as part of the national framework of conservation in Sierra Leone and in close consultation and active participation of local communities living in the vicinity of the wetland ecosystems. • it seeks to secure for all Sierra Leone a quality of' environment ade-quate for their health and well being; • to conserve and use the environmental and natural resources for the benefit of present and future generations; • to restore, maintain and enhance the ecosystems and ecological pro-cesses essential for the functioning of the biosphere; to preserve bio-logical diversity and the principle of optimum sustainable yield in the use of living natural resources and ecosystems; and • to raise public awareness and promote understanding of the essential linkages between environment development and to encourage individual and community participation in environmental improvement efforts
